Welcome!

I’m Jess. I am an Australian children’s author, passionate about empowering kids and sparking imagination. My stories are full of humour and heart, often exploring the world from a neurodivergent perspective.

With a background in speech pathology and disability services, I now pursue my love of words by weaving stories with a subtle message of inclusivity, encouraging readers to think outside the box. I live with my rainbow family-of-four in Sydney. Aside from writing, I enjoy coffee (who doesn’t?) and spoonerisms (doo husn’t?!).

News and Events

Bernie Thinks in Boxes is out now!

I’m very excited to announce that Bernie Thinks in Boxes has been selected as one of five picture books to be included in Prep Bags for all Victorian school starters in 2025! This is a wonderful Victorian State Government initiative, which will see approximately 65,000 children receiving a bag of books to improve literacy and build a love of reading. To ensure access for students who are blind or have low vision, the books will also be produced in Braille, with tactile Illustrations by the Statewide Vision Resource Centre.

Q&A

Q: Where do you get your ideas?

A: The shower! Ahem, I mean, my brain. It’s a very interesting place with many displaced sentences and rhyming couplets floating around, waiting to become a story. But in all seriousness, my best ideas always hit me in the shower. No wonder my water bills are so high!

Q: What do you do when you’re not writing?

A: When I’m not writing, you’ll find me attempting to write around a large, stubborn cat that is firmly planted on the keyboard. Or pretending to write while I’m really watching Netflix over the top of the laptop.

Q: What’s your favourite book?

A: Hahahahaha! Oh, you’re serious? Right. Uh… Well, I can’t choose. I love them all!
